The Future of Breathwork...

Where Breathwork Is Going (And Why It Matters Now)

When we first began our breathwork journey, we believed transformation came through long, intense sessions. But over time—and through working with thousands of clients—we realized something deeper:

Breathing is a behavior.

And behavior can be observed, measured, understood, and changed.

Through our work with clients, our collaboration with Dr. Peter Litchfield, and the insights we’ve gathered using the CapnoTrainer, we’ve come to understand this truth more clearly than ever:

Breathwork is not the same as breathing.

And now, the rest of the world is starting to catch on.

With a growing demand for evidence-based approaches to nervous system regulation, more professionals in medicine, mental health, performance, and coaching are asking the right questions:

How do I know if this breathing work is actually helping?
How do I measure it, track real change, and know it’s working?

This is where Behavioral Breathwork comes in.
It’s not a trend… it’s a necessary evolution.

Our mission is simple:
To train as many people as possible in the science and practice of Behavioral Breathwork—so that when someone is ready to take their breathing seriously, there’s a trained facilitator who knows how to guide them with clarity, compassion, and evidence-based tools.

Whether you’re just starting out or deep in this work already, thank you for being part of this movement.

We’re grateful to have you here—and we hope this week’s insights support you in continuing to grow and share this work.

With Appreciation,
Shane & Angie

Featured Insight of the Week

“The most effective Breathwork begins with awareness...
Not a technique.”

Focus: The A.I.R. Framework for One-to-One Client Work

In the first three weeks of the Behavioral Breathwork Facilitator Training, we laid the groundwork for supporting clients through the A.I.R. Framework—Awareness, Intervention, Regulation. This is the pathway back to natural, automatic self-regulation—what behavioral science identifies as the foundation of health and wellness.

Week 1 – Awareness: We explored Reflexive Breathing and how observation, not technique, is the first step toward meaningful change.

Week 2 – Intervention: We introduced responsive tools like core functions of breathing like spaces, pacing and shapes to gently shift dysfunctional patterns.

Week 3 – Regulation: We explored how true regulation arises when we support, not override, the body’s natural rhythm.

This week, our Behavioral Breathwork Facilitators received a detailed blueprint for helping clients use breathing as a tool for nervous system regulation.

Exciting News!

A New Collaboration with the
Professional School of Behavioral Health Sciences

We’re excited to share that I (Angie) have taken on a new role as Director of Admissions at the Professional School of Behavioral Health Sciences.

Shane and I have worked closely with Dr. Peter Litchfield and Sandra Reamer for over five years, translating their research into practical programs that are now being used in clinical, coaching, and wellness contexts.

This new partnership brings together science, breath, and behavioral health in a more accessible and applied way.

More updates are coming soon.

Subtle Changes. Big Shifts. Why experience beats theory every time…
When Personal Practice Comes First When we first started exploring breathwork, I wasn’t ready to facilitate for others. At that time, with young children at home, my priority was my own practice and my own health… both physically and mentally. Shane and I practiced two to four times a week, anywhere from 45 minutes to over an hour each session. We kept this rhythm for more than a year, explor...
She’d never had a panic attack… until the breathwork started.
When "Good" Breathing Makes Things Worse At the end of one of our group sessions, a participant came up to us visibly shaken.  During the breathwork session, she’d experienced what felt like a panic attack... tight chest, racing thoughts, overwhelm. She told us afterward that she doesn’t typically experience anxiety, and had never had a panic attack before. She was confused. Not just by what h...
The Smallest Shift That Changed Everything
When "Good" Breathing Makes Things Worse This week in our Facilitator Workroom, we worked with a client whose intake questionnaire revealed a clear pattern around emotional stress. As we explored her breathing together, she began to notice how her body responded when she felt overwhelmed.  I asked her to bring on the feeling of stress... then simply observe. Next, I invited her to do the thin...
